A tanker charterer recently told us:

    “I usually get my market read from my go-to broker’s position list.”

We looked at the MR market in the Med. Precise identified 74 open Clean MRs. We then compared three shipbroker position lists against that market view:

   – Broker A: 20 MRs → 27% coverage
   – Broker B: 43 MRs → 58% coverage
   – Broker C: 41 MRs → 55% coverage

At best, a single list covered 58% of the market

A shipbroker position list is a view of the market, not the whole market. For chartering desks, the key is combining these different, partial views to build a more complete picture.
