Mapping Europe’s Small Tanker Spot Cargoes

Charter small tankers in Europe? Then you know the challenge: a fragmented market with too many blind spots.

We decided it’s time to shed some light on it.

This is the first in a series of articles exploring the European small tanker market through Precise data.

To start, we’ve mapped 3,000+ spot cargoes of clean products and chemicals circulated in the market for loading across the UKC, Baltics and Mediterranean over the past 12 months, covering stems of up to 25,000 tonnes. The larger the circle, the more spot cargoes appeared on the market for that loading location.

Unsurprisingly, the ARA region dominates. But look closer, and some areas might surprise you. Even some of our customers were surprised to discover significantly more (or less) activity at certain ports than they expected.

This map is just the starting point. Behind each loading location lies a market with its own dynamics, opportunities and surprises. We’ll continue sharing insights into Europe’s small tanker market in the coming weeks.

Curious what detailed small tanker market data could reveal? Let’s talk!

Methodology:

All collected cargo data is deduplicated to avoid double-counting. Circle size reflects the number of unique cargoes appearing on the spot market at each load location.
